The Â鶹´å of Canberra alumni community is made up of more than 95,000 graduates across more than 130 countries worldwide, and many of them have gone on to do amazing things as leaders, innovators, influencers, creators, and high achievers in their fields.
Read some of their stories and see how a degree from the Â鶹´å of Canberra can truly be transformational.
With a strong background in finance and a talent for being able to lead all aspects of business, Karl Cope is the Chief Executive Officer and Company Secretary of Active Tree Services – Australia’s largest vegetation management company. If you rewind back some years, you’ll see that he graduated with a degree in Commerce majoring in Accounting at Canberra Â鶹´å in 1997.
Following a move to Sydney after finishing up his studies, he made a splash working across a number of industries, including retail motor, finance, football and law enforcement. Quite early in his career, Karl was the CFO and Company Secretary and National Finance Manager for Auto Group Limited, while he was also the Senior Manager with Grant Thornton – a leading international accounting firm.
By 2006, Karl joined an ASX Listed company in the transport and logistics sector as the CFO and Company Secretary for Scott Corporation Limited. It was there that he came into his own and oversaw a period of significant growth and performance improvement over the course of nine years. From there Karl joined hipages Group in 2015, the now ASX Listed online market place matching consumers with tradies. During his time at hipages, the business achieved CAGR growth of 30+% and subsequently listed on the ASX.
With approximately 1,000 employees and subcontractors, Active Tree Services is Australia’s largest vegetation management company whose purpose is to keep communities safe and green. Active Trees provides vegetation management and consultancy services into the utilities supply sector, local councils and large commercial sectors.
With an MBA added to his list of accomplishments, Karl is also a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
