Services and facilities

Workshop7 offers a comprehensive array of cutting-edge fabrication and prototyping facilities, blending advanced digital technologies with traditional manual tools.
The Digital Fabrication Lab features 3D printing, CNC machining, and laser cutting, allowing for precise, high-detail model production using various materials. The workshop also explores automation with robotic fabrication, utilizing a 6-axis robotic arm for complex tasks. Additionally, manual fabrication capabilities include extensive woodworking, metalworking, and plastic fabrication tools, ensuring a wide range of project needs are met. Complementing these facilities are design consultation services, electronics workspaces, and a specialized composites lab, making Workshop7 an ideal hub for innovative design and manufacturing projects.
3D Printing
The Workshop7 3D Printing Lab is equipped with a range of technologies to produce 3D models which would otherwise be too complex or costly to build manually. We utilize a bank of Bambu FDM printers for low/medium detail form study models, and for higher detail prototypes, we have Formlabs SLA machines which can produce a part in high resolution (down to 25 microns per layer) in a range of material types from durable, flexible, high-temperature, and more.
- FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling)
- SLA (Stereolithography)
CNC Machining
Our Multicam CNC Router is among our most versatile services. With a 2.6m x 1.5m operating area, we can process materials such as soft and hard woods, MDF, various foam materials, and soft metals (e.g., aluminium) up to a thickness of 50mm. With this machine, we can produce 2D 鈥減rofile cuts鈥 which form a kit of pieces, much like flat-pack furniture, or we can 3D route shapes such as landscape contour models with complex 3-dimensional curvature. For more complex CNC machining jobs, we have a Tormach 770MX.

Laser Cutting and Engraving
The Laser Lab is equipped with a large and a small format laser cutter. These machines take sheet materials 鈥 almost anything besides metals 鈥 and quickly cut or mark them to turn them into kit-form models. This makes it an ideal option for scale architectural models and rapid product prototypes.

Robotic Fabrication and Automation
Workshop7 is exploring the future of automation in design and manufacturing with our Universal Robots UR10e robot arm. This 6-axis robot is an experimental tool which allows us to construct things that would otherwise be excessively complex or tedious to complete using manual techniques and technologies. We have so far developed and integrated tools for operations such as large-scale 3D printing with a plastic extruder tool, milling and drilling operations, and 鈥減ick and place鈥 programs for building brick-based structures.
In addition to this, Workshop7 is equipped with a range of manual tools and machinery for working with a variety of materials. For processing metals, we have rollers for sheet rolling, a folder, and an English wheel for compound sheet forming. There is also the machining room, and a separate welding area with MIG, TIG, and arc welders. For timber, plastics, and other materials, we have a room with bandsaws, disc sanders, table saw, and a wood lathe. There is also a spray booth for painting parts/models.
